Optical Coherence Tomography

At Judi Coey Optometry we now have Optical Coherence Tomography Retina Scan Duo which images a 3D view of the macular and optic nerve head. This enables a baseline scanning of the macular and optic nerve head for macular degeneration, other macular diseases plus glaucoma and more.

Visual Field Testing

Judi’s practice was the first in Queensland to receive the gold standard of visual field testing equipment – the Carl Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyser 3. Yes, the best just got better.

How it works

Visual field testing (also known as computerised or automated perimetry examination) provides Judi with specific information on the status of your vision, in particular, the parts of your peripheral vision that you may not be aware of. The test takes less than 15 minutes, is totally painless and is bulk billed to Medicare.  Judi will take a few minutes after testing to discuss the results with you and if relevant, compare with previous results.

How it benefits you

Visual field testing is paramount in in the diagnosis and management of ocular health conditions associated with the brain including tumours, strokes and more commonly, glaucoma.

There are currently over 300 000 Australians with undiagnosed glaucoma which has few symptoms and can lead to blindness if left undetected. Nerve fibres are progressively destroyed by this condition, eventually causing permanent loss of sight. There is no cure for glaucoma and damage is permanent, making early detection and treatment essential.

Do you need testing?

Visual field analysis’ are recommended if a patient shows decreased sensitivity on the screening test, have high intraocular pressures or report a history of strokes or brain trauma.

iCare Tonometer

Judi uses the revolutionary iCare tonometer for quick and easy intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement without the need for anaesthesia or air. The iCare tonometer is based on an accurate measuring principle where a very light probe is used to make momentary and gentle contact with the cornea. This device not only makes taking IOP measurements a more pleasant experience for all patients, it has been a breakthrough in terms of mobility for Judi when she visits patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

Optomap Ultra-widefield Photography and Angiography

We are very excited to announce our latest addition - A digital Retinal Scanner.

Regular detailed examination of the inside of the eye – the retina, is critical to eye health. Doctors use a number of techniques to examine the retina including looking into the eye, usually after dilating and the use of special cameras for imaging inside the eye. Until recently, most ophthalmic cameras could only photograph about 20% of the retina at a time. We now know that many eye diseases occur or begin at the outer edges of the retina, (“the periphery”), so examining this area is extremely important. Because seeing the entire retina is so important at Judi Coey Optometry we have invested in the most advanced camera for ultra-widefield photography and angiography.

In a single, quick shot, this camera produces “optomap” photos or angiograms of about 82% of the retina. These optomap images provide superior visibility of the retinal periphery allowing us to see, document, show you, and follow pathology that could not be seen with traditional eye cameras.

The optomap exam is quick and painless and combined with the thorough eye exams our optometrists are trained to provide this advanced technology offers a new level of diagnostic confidence. We are proud and happy to offer this service to our patients.
