Judi graduated from QUT in 1989 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Optometry. She started her career in Central Queensland with her husband Ken, servicing Mackay and the surrounding mining towns. In 2002 the Coey’s sold up everything to live on a catamaran and sail the east coast of Australia with their three children. Judi managed to work as a locum optometrist between sailing, schooling the two eldest children and changing nappies.
In 2006, the family bought a 50-acre property in Maleny where they started up a cattle farm called Maleny Wagyu. Since establishing herself here, Judi has spent the last 10 years working as an optometrist in Maleny as well as immersing herself in local book clubs, the Maleny Business Network Group, the chaplaincy committee and previously the P&C committee at Maleny State High School.
Judi is a member of the Optical Association of Australia and is strongly committed to continuing education and attends a number of courses each year in addition to many training modules. Judi’s particular interests in optometry are in eye health, pathology, paediatric vision care and low vision.
Outside of optometry Judi loves sailing with family and friends when she gets the chance. She also enjoys skiing (although she is still perfecting her skills) and traveling. Other interests of hers include keeping fit, exploring the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and catching up with family and friends.
Recently Judi completed the Ocular Therapeutics course through the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne. This has enabled her to treat and manage eye diseases such as glaucoma, conjunctivitis, herpes keratitis and many more.
Rachel joined the Judi Coey team in January 2016. A Maleny local for nearly 25 years, she is passionate about small, independent businesses. The element of optometry that she enjoys the most is helping people find a spectacle frame that not only makes them look fabulous but suits their lifestyle needs as well.
Outside of work, Rachel has a jewellery design business and is heavily involved with semi-professional theatre group, Suncoast Repertory Theatre, and is a singer/ songwriter. Rachel enjoys relaxing with friends and family and her two Bengal cats Ava & Teela. She loves travelling with her best friend; her husband Howie.
Wanita joined the Judi Coey team in June 2018. A true local, Wanita is a fourth-generation “Maleny Girl”. After travelling and working away, she returned to Maleny where she married, raised two children, and co-founded an independent fashion retail business. Her extensive experience in fashion, retail, hospitality and interior design will ensure you receive not only the best styling advice, but the best customer service imaginable.
Outside of work, Wanita loves designing interiors for small spaces, discovering new bush walks, reading, gardening, practicing yoga, and chatting with her hubby and best friend while absorbing the sights and sounds of her backyard rainforest.
Taylah joined the Judi Coey team in July 2018, alongside her mother Wanita. Having lived in Maleny her whole life (with no plans to move any time soon) Taylah has made roots in many industries within our beautiful town.
In keeping with a creative family, Taylah manages her own photography business, photographing couples in love, weddings and families. Other interests include playing the occasional video game, walking along the beach with her fur baby, Felix and spending time cooking in her tiny cabin with her fiancé.
Lee Chamberlain has been working with the Judi Coey team for over two years. Moving to Maleny from Inglewood about twelve years ago with their three daughters, she immersed herself in the Maleny community. Lee enjoys fashion, cooking and travelling with her family and friends.
At Judi Coey Optometry, our aim is to deliver the highest standard of personalised eye care to our patients.
